Artist Statement: Teaching inspires new ideas for me and results in ever so many demos that have developed into some works in this show. I like to explore themes such as messages, mandalas, astrology & constellations, special people (those Women from Michigan), environmental concerns, and the illusion & passages of time.
Many of these works were inspired by a Mandala group on Facebook, where I was challenged to paint one a day for the first twelve days of the year. Using the symbolism of the full moons, patterns in nature, and how I looked at the meaning of numbers themselves (numerology), my spin takes them away from a strictly repeated pattern to explore something more.
Other works in this exhibit were inspired by the solstices, the moon becomes a character, and the space has a touch of magic in which I enjoy moving beyond realism into another way of seeing and communicating. I hope you discover something new to you in these works.
